K-6 Art Exhibition
In 2024, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 explored the world of Surrealism through a creative experiment that combined traditional artmaking with generative AI. Each student began by creating a collage artwork inspired by Surrealist ideas, juxtaposing unexpected objects, reimagining landscapes and giving form to dreams.
Using age-appropriate AI tools, students then remixed their artworks digitally. They learned how to write prompts to guide the AI, experimenting with how language, description and imagination shape visual outcomes. This process prompted conversations about authorship, creativity, and the role of machines in art making.
The completed works—original and AI remixed—were exhibited in a virtual gallery, which the students visited via their own avatars. This immersive space introduced them to the concept of the metaverse and how digital environments can be used to display and interact with art. The same artworks were also displayed in a physical exhibition at school, where students proudly shared their work with families, staff and peers.
The project sparked thoughtful conversations across the school community about the future of art, the influence of new technologies and the importance of human perspective in creative expression.
